Do you have questions about crown lengthening treatment? If so, our periodontist, Dr. Shelby Nelson, is happy to help you find the answers you’re looking for. Crown lengthening is a beneficial treatment that can improve the appearance of your smile when your gums sit high on your teeth. To help you, she is happy to provide the answers to the following commonly asked questions:
Q: What steps are involved in crown lengthening treatment?
A: Your periodontist will first ensure your comfort by numbing the mouth with a local anesthetic. If necessary, she will provide a dental sedative to keep you relaxed and comfortable. Then, she will reshape the excess gum tissue to expose more of the tooth. This can be done for a single tooth or an entire gumline if desired.
Q: How painful is the treatment?
A: You shouldn’t experience any pain or discomfort during the treatment, thanks to the local anesthetic administered.
Q: How long is the recovery time following treatment?
A: The recovery time should last around six weeks. After seven to 10 days, you will visit our office to get the stitches out. Then, you will visit again another four to six weeks later to make sure everything is in tip-top shape.
